Our project began in 2019 with seeds from a variety of Tobacco called ‘Cuban Criollo 98’. Those seeds were planted at our farm and we allowed only the most healthy, vigorous plants to seed.

The practice reaches back to prehistoric times. Basically, a farmer plants a crop and, when they see a trait that they like in a plant, they will collect the seeds for the next crop.  This process is repeated until a new variety is established.

We will apply this method to our tobacco crops and, hopefully, the outcome will be a variety of Tobacco that thrives in Cayman!
